The New York Times called John Carrafa's choreography "inspired comic genius and seemingly connected to the entire history of theatrical choreography, blithely quoting Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, and Michael Bennett." Variety called his choreography a "high water mark in dance comedy" and named him as one of Hollywood's "Top Ten New Talents to Watch."
John Carrafa is one of the most innovative and groundbreaking choreographers working today. Moving with ease between all genres and dance styles, he is known for not only his sophistication, but also as a choreographer who achieves the elusive task of making truly funny dances. In Hollywood he's known as the "dance doctor," the choreographer who can take any star, no matter how little training they have, and help them dance like a pro.
He approaches each project like an actor, from the inside out, trying on each new style and character of dancing to create a unique new vocabulary of dance. The result is often surprising and always original. He elevates every project he works on to an award winning level and he's a multiple award winner himself, both on Broadway and in Hollywood. He's the only choreographer to ever be nominated for Two Tony Awards and win the Media Choreography Honors all within the same year. No two dances are ever alike and whether it's using motion capture technology in Hollywood or in a giant production number on Broadway, he is always pushing the form and setting a new standard of excellence in the field of film and stage choreography.
